Peace o’clock

I’ve been thinking a lot about peace lately. The holiday season brings that out in me.

This is the time of year to count blessings and remember how lucky we are when we find peace. As for me, I know I’m lucky to live in a place where war is something that mostly happens somewhere else, knock on wood.

Peace is something we could all use more of. So when Daniel Wellington asked me to showcase their watches and bracelets in my photographs, I decided to choose a setting symbolic of peace and harmony: The Reflecting Pool on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

A lot of history has been made in this place, presided over by a seated statue of President Abraham Lincoln, who led a war – the last one on American soil – so that a country could move closer to being at peace with itself. Thank you, Mr. Lincoln.

If my clothes in this shoot are a little more serious than usual, it’s because I have a lot of respect for this place and the things it symbolizes. So my suit is on the conservative side, a tailored blue pinstripe pants, vest, and jacket.

So as not to be too boring, though, I added this fiery overcoat in pumpkin with electric blue cuffs. Brings a little fun to the mix.

Crazy looking with this outfit, no? The Reflecting Pool’s visiting ducks seemed to like it though.

Anyway, back to Daniel Wellington for a moment. Have you started thinking about your holiday gift-giving list? Now’s the time, procrastinators!

Wherever the quest for style takes you during the holiday season and into the New Year, I hope you find what you are looking for.

As for me, my hope for the holidays is a simple one: Peace – may there be more of it.

Peace to all of you.
